TRANSPORTATION

Twenty years ago our transportation system in Virginia was the envy of the nation.

Rest areas in Virginia are closing due to lack of funding and some believe we should take money from our children to reopen them. If we are going to remain the best state in the nation for business we must fix the transportation crisis that our current legislators refuse to deal with. With your help we can design a mutli-faceted, funded transportation solution that doesn't put band-aids on the problem, or shift the burden to our children. Together we can find a solution that solves these problems indefinitely.

One answer, I believe, is rail technology. As your Delegate I am going to work to develop a "Short Stop" pilot program in Amherst/Sweet Briar to establish the viability of a small community rail service. We also must work with the current administration in Washington and the next administration in Richmond to create a Steel Interstate to serve both passenger and commercial rail in the Shenandoah Valley and start moving cars and trucks off of I-81.

We must provide oversight of VDOT to ensure good stewardship of our tax dollars, but we must also provide them the resources so that they can perform their basic duties: building and maintaining our roads and bridges. We must start building a transportation solution that get's Virginia moving again.

It's time to go to work.
